Top 10 New iOS 9.1 Emojis

And the winner is “Face with rolling eyes” 🎉🎉🎉 with 14% of all new Emojis sent:

1️⃣ – 14% – Face with rolling eyes
2️⃣ – 9% – Reversed hand with middle finger extended
3️⃣ – 8% – Thinking face
4️⃣ – 7% – Upside-down face
5️⃣ – 7% – Nerd face
6️⃣ – 6% – Hugging face
7️⃣ – 5% – Heavy heart exclamation mark ornament
8️⃣ – 4% – White frowning face
9️⃣ – 4% – Slightly frowning face
🔟 – 3% – Unicorn face

A fun fact from Mark Davis, president of the Unicode Consortium: “I had a side bet that the face with rolling eyes would be the most popular new one, so it was fun to see the stats from EmojiXpress”!

Our EmojiXpress team thought it was going to be the Unicorn face based on our user requests 🙃 What’s also surprising is that some of the highly requested food items such as Hotdog 🌭, Taco 🌮, and Burrito 🌯 didn’t make the top 10.

Some additional interesting stats:
Our sample size was 30 million Emojis typed with our EmojiXpress keyboard during the two-week period of January 15-30, 2016. Out of these 30 million Emojis, only 5% (1.5 million) were new Emojis. The top 10 new Emojis made up 65% of all new Emojis typed.

See our stats page for close to real-time stats 😁🤓😘

  5. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
